Wow. Life has been totally hectic recently. We are in the middle of a dragged out, 2 part house move, and working on some fab projects that have been keeping me away from my blog.
However, I have received some lovely photos today from the fabulous Ellie Gillard that have prompted me to get back to business and blog the hell out of them.
A few months ago Kat from Rock n Roll Bride caught my attention when she posted about the Bridal Next! Awards. Being relatively new to the wedding industry, and feeling like I have something a little different to offer I decided to go for it and entered.
I was really excited to hear that I’d made it into the final 10 – which meant exhibiting at the Most Curious Wedding Fair in London, meeting all the judges and showing them what I do.
On the day, I arrived at York Hall totally crippled by nerves. We met the lovely Becky one of the show organisers, and set up my very rainbow coloured stand under the mezzanine along with the other 9 competitors.
I was the only stationer, and to be honest at this point I was sort of convinced that I’d unknowingly entered a Bridalwear competition and had been let in out of pity. I was determined to enjoy the show and make the most of meeting couples & other suppliers but at this stage, seeing all the fabulous things on offer along our row I had completely convinced myself that I was out of the running.
And that’s basically what I did. My adorable husband Craig had been volunteered (by me) to model on the catwalk, so that was a proud moment seeing him all handsome and smart in an outfit put together by the marvelous Sammy Aki.
I was rather nervous to talk to the judges, Kat from Rock n Roll Bride, Peta from You & Your Wedding Magazine, Rachel from Luellas Boudoir and Hazel from Rag & Bow, but I was floored by how lovely everyone was to talk to, and they were all really receptive to my ideas and kind about my work. It was a breath of fresh air after I’d built myself up to being borderline terrified.
We had a little Bridal Next catwalk show, which I participated in awkwardly and minimally, while the judges looked on, and then they disappeared off to deliberate.
Again, we ambled up onto the catwalk to hear the results and I stood awkwardly behind my little board. Then, to my absolute surprise I was announced as the Most Curious One to Watch! When I say surprise, I really can’t emphasise that enough – I was completely floored and super emotional. Lisa Critcher Millinery and Federica Bruno Couture deservedly took highly commended awards and I got to wear an amazing floral crown from Emma Mills Bespoke Florist and spend the last hour of the show walking on air.
I am still over the moon to have won – you can now find me on Ruby+Diva and my work will soon be displayed in Luellas Boudoir. I am so grateful to the organisers & judges, and everyone who has helped me out in my first year – aside from anything else, winning this has given me a much needed confidence boost and everybodies kind words about my new collections have made me even more determined to explore my style and push it forward to it’s full potential.
Kind of love you all. This job is the best.
